About Clubs

What on earth is a screen club?

This is a fair question. Organisations like this are rare which is what we’re looking to change!

A screen club is a place where grassroots or amateur filmmaking can thrive and communities can be built. Our clubs will function no differently than what you’d be used to - with registrations taking place once a year and Annual General Meetings giving members the opportunity to elect or re-elect members of the Club Committee.

Schedule

Each year, members of the club will have the chance to work on two productions - one in semester one and another in semester two.

The year starts with pitching: an opportunity for any member to pitch their idea(s) for productions to the Club Committee. The committee green lights the best ideas and the members who pitched them become those productions’ producers.

Each producer then has 6 weeks of pre-production (planning, writing, casting, etc) to get their idea ready for filming. While this occurs, every other member will be asked to nominate their preferred positions they’d like to have (camera operator, writer, actor, sound recordist, editor, etc). Producers and the committee will then work together to ensure every member is assigned a role they’re interested in and on a production with friends if possible.

Once each project enters production (filming), producers and crews will meet once a week for 10 weeks, either on the weekend or after school, to complete filming. The first two of these 10 weeks are an induction workshop (equipment demonstration and safety briefing - including child safety) and a dress rehearsal.

If the show is a broadcast / podcast production, the episodes will air the week after they’re filmed or at another arranged time. If the project is a short film or vertical production, then at this stage, the producer and editor will enter post-production (editing, sound mixing, colour grading). The amount of time needed for this will depend on the production. Once completed, the project is done!

If you miss out on having your idea greenlit in semester one, that’s no problem! You’ll have another opportunity in semester two.

Annual General Meeting

Positions on the Club Committee will be up for election every June or July at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the club. Committee members can also put their names down for re-election. These meetings are where every member and their parents can have a say about the future of the club.
