1 Day Program
Year 7-12
A one day school holiday activity in all things visual storytelling. You’ll learn to professionally light, direct and shoot a short film based on a real script from a film or TV show.
For emerging filmmakers, cinematographers and storytellers
Year 7-12 students with an interest in cameras, directing or lighting are invited to explore the possibilities of visual storytelling by taking part in this one day filmmaking workshop. Gain access to and learn to use professional filmmaking equipment, including high-powered lights, sound equipment and a full 6K cinema camera package.

The Day
Upon arrival, you’ll meet the industry professionals who’ll be your mentors for the day. They’ll take you through all the equipment piece by piece and explain what everything is, why it’s used on professional film sets, and how it all helps tell engaging stories.
After a fully catered lunch, you’ll then work as a team to plan the shots, decorate and light the set - before shooting a full short film. Each participant will receive guidance and support from our Mentors who are there to ensure you leave with the skills and confidence to tackle your own projects.
Everyone will receive an email after the fact with a link to download the audio and video files of each take from the day. These won’t be synced and the video will be in a RAW or h.264 format. Unsure what that means? Don’t worry! You’ll be shown on the day!
Screen Clubs is a not-for-profit organisation. All proceeds go towards fostering young creatives and establishing local ‘screen clubs’ in communities across Victoria.

Days are broken up the same as a regular school day with time for recess and lunch.

Each day lasts 7 hours, beginning between 9 and 10am, and finishing between 4 and 5pm.

A water bottle and closed toe shoes to protect their feet (no ugg boots or sandals). A hat and sunscreen if the program takes place on a sunny day.

Certainly is! We’ll ask for dietary requirements when you book. No need to pack snacks.

No past experience in filmmaking is needed! Every program is entry level and designed to take each participant through the steps at their own pace.

If your child is younger than 12, then unfortunately no, not at the moment. If your child is the same age as a year 7, but still in year 6. We may be able to have them attend, but this is assessed on a case by case basis. Please email us at contact@screenclubs.org.au.

All locations are council or school property and are usually wheelchair accessible. This information can be found by checking our locations.
We don’t run programs specifically for teenagers with special needs, however we endeavour to be as inclusive as possible. You’ll be able to let us know what your child needs when booking. Unfortunately, we’re unable to provide 1:1 support. If we’re not for you, that’s ok! If your child is 17 years or older, we cannot recommend Bus Stop Films enough.
